Get Rich Text Format Files Into Page Layout Software

Save File as Rich Text Format

Formatted Word Processing File

This word processing file includes font colors, rule line, and bold text.

Saving as plain text would cause you to lose the font color, sizes, and typestyles as well as the alignment of the text and the rule line seen in our example. With Rich Text Format or RTF we hope to preserve as much of this layout as possible.

  • Open the document that you want to transfer to your desktop publishing application.

  • Save the file in the Rich Text Format (*.RTF) format. You may have to use Save As or Export, depending on your software.

  • In some software, it may be necessary to select and export each individual text block or story as a separate file. This is especially true if using RTF to export multiple items from one page layout application to another one. Be sure to use a unique filename for each exported RTF file.
