- Ignore it - Don't let it bother you.
- Try pulling in the subsequent lines of the paragraph to fill in the gap — it might work with some typefaces and not look odd.
- Rewrite the copy so it starts with a different (more cooperative) letter.
- Try a different style, such as a raised cap, or no initial cap at all.
Dropped caps may cause the most problem with extra space in the middle of a word, but pay attention to spacing with raised caps too. You may need to kern letters such as F, P, or T to eliminate extra space between letters along the baseline.
