Definition:

One of several methods of securing loose printed pages using single or double loop wire that fit into round or rectangular holes in the pages is often called wire binding, or more commonly, spiral binding. Wire binding is often used for blank notebooks and for reports that generally have a short shelf-life. It allows the publications to lay flat when opened.

A sturdier alternative to the single wire spirals, double loop wire binding or Wiro (or Wire-o) inserts double loops or wire teeth into rectangular holes in the paper.

One of the drawbacks to single wire binding over double loop wire binding or plastic comb binding is that the wire ends often come loose, tear the the end holes, and become bent or entangled — as most any school child who has carried multiple spiral notebooks in their backpack can attest.

In addition to having your printed material professionally bound after commercial printing, there is binding equipment available for home or office use (Compare Prices).
