Change the text to curves. The command will vary by program and can usually be found under the Type menu while the text is selected.

• In Illustrator: "Create Outlines"
• In CorelDRAW: "Convert to Curves"
• In Inkscape: "Path > Object to Path"
• In DrawPlus: "Convert to Curves"

Once converted to a path you can no longer edit your word as text (that is, you can't change the font or point size or correct the spelling or other text options). It is now a graphic object.
