View Guides in QuarkXPress
Try all of these Options for viewing guides

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

There are multiple ways to make margin, column, and ruler guides visible and invisible as well as change their placement, color, and remove them completely in QuarkXPress. The instructions on this page for setting up guides refer to the basic QuarkXPress program and not to any of the many XTensions which supply additional functionality, including increased options for guides.
  • Select View > Show/Hide Guides or F7 to turn on/off the display of all guides, including margins.

  • Set ruler guides to display only at specific percentages of magnification. Hold the Shift key down while dragging the guide onto the page or spread to lock it to the current view percentage or when zoomed in closer. This allows you to set guides when zoomed in for precise placement but automatically remove them from view when zoomed out to get an overall look at the layout.

  • Drag individual ruler guides off the page to remove them. You don't have to drag them to the rulers, go the opposite direction if it is a shorter distance.

  • Quickly remove all horizontal ruler guides on a page by using Option-click (Mac) or Alt-click (Windows) on the horizontal ruler for the page.

  • Quickly remove all vertical ruler guides on a page by using Option-click (Mac) or Alt-click (Windows) on the vertical ruler for the page.

  • Guides in the Master Page area that extend onto the pasteboard (spread guides) won't appear on document pages but guides confined to the page (page guides) will appear on all other pages in the document that are based on that Master Page.

  • Go to Edit > Preferences > Preferences > General pane to place guides in in front of or behind other items on the page.

  • Go to Edit > Preferences> Preferences > Display pane > Guides area (Mac) or Guide Colors area (Windows) to specify different colors for the margin and ruler guides.
