By , About.com Guide

There are multiple ways to create and modify layout and ruler guides in Microsoft Publisher. Try all these methods. For those learning Publisher after learning PageMaker or QuarkXPress, layout guides are the equivalent of margin and grid or column guides and ruler guides are the equivalent of page or local guides.
  • Specify page margins by choosing Arrange > Layout Guides.

  • Set up vertical and/or horizontal guides for columns or grids under Arrange > Layout Guides under the section called Grid Guides.

  • Create a ruler guide by holding down the Shift key, placing the pointer on a horizontal or vertical ruler then drag the pointer into position on the page.

  • Choose Tools > Snap to Ruler Marks for more precise placement of guides. with Snap to Ruler Marks checks, guides dragged on to the page will snap into place at the closest tick mark on the ruler when the mouse button is released.

  • To create facing pages with mirrored layout guides, go to Arrange > Layout Guides and choose the Create Two Backgrounds With Mirrored Guides option.
