Pay for Your Software One Month at a Time

Been wishing you could afford to shell out thousands of dollars for the Adobe Creative Suite? Maybe now you can by shelling out just a hundred or so a month. Adobe introduces a new subscription plan for Creative Suite and some of the individual components such as InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop. Pick the software you want, pick your payment plan, download the software from Adobe.com. Your credit card is charged each month. Stop, restart, or cancel your subscription online. When your subscription is stopped or cancelled you won't be able to use the software until the subscription is renewed (you'll need to go online at least once a month to verify your subscription/license status). It's an interesting concept. Do you think you might try it?

Read up on the subscription details here:

  • Subscription editions - pay $139 a month for CS Premium or $49 a month for InDesign; pay a little less with a yearly plan; 5 suites subscriptions for 8 different standalone products.
  • Subscriptions FAQ - learn exactly how to subscribe, how to stop or restart, how to upgrade, how to change your subscription plan, and other details on how it works. Be sure to read the section on how long it takes to download the software (minutes to hours depending on the product and your Internet speed).
  • Visit the Adobe Store and buy direct or subscribe.

Is subscription pricing for desktop publishing software a good thing? Would you like to see other software publishers go to this model? Tell me what you think in the comments.

Those wanting to pay for a subscription should probably go back to math class. Lets do a little math here:

Subscription of 12 months @ $139/month = $1668.00
Upgrade price of once a year @ Staples = $799.00

SAVE $869 a year via upgrades!

Software subscriptions are almost ALWAYS a bad idea for the consumer.

Moreover, once I paid for the software it is mine.

But what happens when your subscription runs out? are you left with anything? Because I am sure you can not subscribe and the next month cancel with the latest updated CS5.
