Where I Work
My home office is 9' x 13' with beige walls, a gray w-to-w carpet and 2 windows. I have 2 desks, 1 computer, an ink-jet printer, a book case, a file cabnet, a storage cabnet for paper. I bought my main work desk, but the other one was garbage-picked.
How I Created This Space
There was a time when my desk was a slab of wood on top of two dresser drawers standing on end. I've been homeless more than once, and I've lived in a few different rooming houses. While living in the last rooming house, my brother gave me my first computer. It was on its way to the trash where my brother works. Thanks to my brother's generosity and resoursfulness I am self-taught in programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Paint. That was many years ago. Now I am a graphic design student at Erie Community College, and I work with Adobe CS4 programs on my Windows XP computer.
Tips and Tricks
- Necessity is the mother of invention! Do the best you can with what you have and always always work towards improvement. When I was working on my Windows ME on a slab of wood on top of two dresser drawers, I was not complaining - I was creating cartoons in PowerPoint from characters created in Paint. And I was working on rules for a board game in Word.
- Imagination is the artist's most valuable tool!
My Equipment (Computer, Printers, etc.)
As mentioned, I have a Windows XP computer and an hp Ink-jet printer/scanner. I also work with Machintosh computers at school.
My Favorite Thing About This Space
I have a good sized apartment, but I pretty-much live in my office. Although I am currently unemployed (on disibility), I have done numerous professional quality projects for businesses including a certificate for Literacy Volunteers.
My Least Favorite Thing About This Space
The only thing I don't like about my office is the fact that I don't own it. Other than that, there's nothing not to like about my office. I have literally lived in smaller places.
