What Kind of Business Card I Have

People know me in this forum still from DTP. After moving to Europe I made my photography commitment my full time business. So my business cards reflect actually a unique idea that a British printing company offers photographers. However, the style can be easily adapted for any creative art business and I thought to present it here.

The b-card is 2 sided and has all the information on one side, while the other side shows a photography (could be a creative art project in your case). I have a variation of b-cards with about a dozen different shots ranging spanning the range from travel journalism to portraits.

How I Created My Business Card

The (photo)graphic side explains itself. Photos are filtered and scaled in PS. The original one (submitted to the print shop) has of course 300 pix/inch. For this submission here I resized the photography to 96 pix/ inch.

The side with the business information was developed in Illustrator.

My name as a freelance photographer was formatted/styled in a way that it functions as a logo at the same time.

The biz information contents stays the same but formatting varies slightly, depending on the picture type (landscape or portrait).

Furthermore, the here presented one is the German version. An English version exists of course for international business.

The info side (see 2nd picture) is a screen shot I took from the monitor with AI and the template open.

What I'd Do Differently

  • The background color of the business information reflects the background color of my website. An alternative will be just plain white instead. Not much else in mind as a variation. I try to let one style set in clients mind like a corporate ID.

The Software I Used and Why

My older software versions work still fine for me.

- PS(E) version 5 || - AI version 10

ACDSee Pro 3 (latest version) substitutes very well for Adobe's Lightroom and costs less. Decision was made after being a Beta Tester for ACDSee.

The Layout I Used and Why

Layout is given by the size of a biz card and whether the photography shot (graphic) was done in portrait or landscape.

The Fonts and/or Images I Used and Why

Name (Logo): Verdana || Address a, etc.: AvantGarde

The Paper and Printing Method I Used and Why

Paper is predetermined by print shop. Printing is done in the UK, while I'm currently in Germany. Local print shops can't compete with the UK offer, foreign exchange rate (Pound to Euro) is good, and turn around time is just 3 to 5 days.
