By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com Guide

How do you get your pages — printed from your desktop or prepared for commercial printing — into the proper printing order? Some page layout programs do this automatically. At other times you need plug-ins, XTensions, or stand-alone programs to impose your pages for printing booklets, newsletters, or books.

1. Quite Imposing

Standard and Plus commercial plug-ins for Adobe Acrobat offers a variety of imposition options plus page numbering, masking, and the ability to add pages from other PDF files. Demos are available.

2. Bookletizer

Vision's Edge QuarkXPress XTension easily lets you convert reader's spreads into printer's spreads for proper printing of booklets. Also allows the printing of specific spreads. Download a Demo.

3. Imposer

A Lowly Apprentice Production XTensions and Plug-ins impose QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign documents into 2 up, 4 up, or 8 up flats. It handles the re-ordering during printing rather than changing the actual document. Comes in regular and Pro editions.

4. InBooklet

5. INposition
