Additionally, your software may have the option to turn any tab into a leader tab. This puts a series of dots, dashes, or lines in the space between the last text and the text at the tab stop. As you can see above, the leader dots can work with all four tab alignments.

Other tab options you might encounter include:

  • Comma - works like a decimal tab only it aligns on commas
  • Bar - puts a vertical bar at the designated tab stop
  • Special character (or user specified or align on) - works like a decimal tab but you can specify any character you want for alignment such as $, *, or /
