Arrow Style Tab Symbols
Both Adobe PageMaker and Adobe InDesign offer little on-screen rulers as one option for setting tabs. Those cryptic symbols are (from left to right) for setting left, center, right, and decimal tabs. The decimal symbol has a tiny decimal point to the right of the arrow. QuarkXPress uses the same symbols plus comma and align on arrows that look like the decimal tab symbol except the decimal point is replaced with a comma and an x respectively. greenstreet Publisher puts a cross on the top of the center-aligned arrow, otherwise its symbols are the same as shown here.
Angle Style Tab Symbols
From left to right in the above image, Microsoft Publisher displays these symbols for left, center, right, and decimal tabs. A tiny decimal point is to the right of the upside down T for the decimal tab symbol. Microsoft Word and CorelDRAW use these same symbols. Microsoft Word has an additional tab option called a Bar. Its symbol is a vertical bar and it puts a vertical bar on the page at the point you set a quick and easy way to divide two columns with a vertical rule line.
