Although a graphics program and some node editing could create the illusion of text intertwined with a graphic element, a few flicks with the irregular cropping tool gave much the same effect from right within the program. And if I changed my mind, no need to redo the text -- just remove the cropping envelope.
During my review of Serif PagePlus X3 Publisher Professional I had a little fun with the cropping tool.
