Guide Review - Avery Poster Kit #2724

Note: The specific product in this review may no longer be available. However, the DesignPro software for Windows and Mac is a free download. Check the Avery site for other similar sign or poster products. The DesignPro 5.0 software is easy to use, has several templates to get you started fast, and offers basic drawing tools and special effects. It comes with hundreds of vector and bitmap images in several styles, organized by subject. You can also create and import your own images or do more complex editing of the included images in another graphics program.

In addition to the software, the poster kit has materials for two 18" x 24" posters. The label sheets work in both ink jet and laser printers. It has complete instructions including a calibration sheet for your printer and clear instructions for assembling your poster. After spending way too much time browsing the clip art, I created my first poster in a matter of minutes utilizing images from the clip art gallery and plain paragraph text.

The trickiest part for me was aligning the printed pages for the poster. It's simple, but precision is needed. Also, my poster contained a lot of small text that needed to be lined up just right. Fortunately, the pages can be lifted and repositioned easily during assembly.

Tip: The backing paper comes rolled up. Unroll and flatten the backing ahead of time to make poster assembly easier and faster.

You could get the same finished product by using any desktop publishing software, printing on full-page labels, and assembling the poster on your own backing. However, the Avery sign kits make it easier and faster, especially for those with limited design software experience.

Beginners will find the Avery DesignPro software quite easy to master. The printer calibration function combined with the adhesive sheets let you make nice-looking posters in minutes even if your printer only handles A4 or letter size paper. Other kits available from Avery include 18" x 48" banners and outdoor poster kits that have weather-resistant sleeves to protect your sign.
