Budget and professional don't usually mix. If saving pennies is absolutely essential, these programs combine relatively low cost with many of the same features as more advanced page layout tools for desktop publishing. The trade-off is lesser acceptance by commercial printers and limited advanced options. These are excellent programs for home or small business use and some professional design.
Spot and process color separations, HTML publishing, and good typography and graphics tools are some of the available features. This is the lowest cost option for Mac.
Not quite on a par with InDesign or QuarkXPress, it still delivers professional quality results. Marketed toward business users, it outshines Publisher in output but not in price or ease of use. It makes the Mac budget list because there are so few options and the price is still less than other high-end options.
