Definition:
The side of a sheet paper that is next to the wire in paper manufacturing, also called the reverse or bottom side, is the wire side. The wire side is usually not quite as smooth as the top or felt side and is not the preferred printing side of the paper.
The differences in the felt side and wire side of a piece a paper is part of the two-sidedness inherent in the paper manufacturing process.
