Definition: For graphics and paper: 1) Transparency is a measure of how see-through something is or how much light can pass through. Transparency is used most often in desktop publishing to refer to a graphic or paper. A graphic image in which the background appears to be invisible has 100% transparency.
For presentations: 2) A piece of clear or colored plastic or film used with an overhead projector to make presentations on a wall or white screen is also called a transparency. Light from the project shines through the clear part of the transparency leaving the image printed on it to show up as darker on the wall or screen. A transparency may be written on with special marker or printed in some desktop printers.
