Definition:
According to The Visual Dictionary of Graphic Design by Gavin Ambrose and Paul Harris, a hypho is "A hyphenated widow that leaves half a word on a line." In typography, widows and orphans are a single word (or maybe a couple of short words) left dangling alone at the bottom or top of a column of text. When it's not even a full word but instead a portion of a hyphenated word, it's called a hypho.
Hypho used in this manner is not a widely acknowledged definition.
Also Known As: widow | orphan
