Definition:

In desktop publishing, collaterals refers to various print (and Web) materials used to support the marketing or promotional efforts of a company or other organization. Although some collateral materials may be used specifically to generate an immediate sale, collectively they are normally designed to promote or soft-sell and enhance the branding efforts of the organization.

Some types of desktop publishing documents that fall under the category of collaterals include:

  • Brochures
  • Fliers or posters
  • Product data sheets
  • Promotional materials such as calendars, t-shirts, notepads
  • Certificates
  • Cards such as holiday cards and thank you cards
  • Web site content
