Lesson 3: Assignment
Graphic Design Portfolios for Desktop Publishing

From

Using as many of the 5 ideas described in Lesson 3 as are appropriate for you, add to your collection of portfolio samples.
  1. This lesson may have given you ideas on material you can add immediately. Dig out your own identity pieces and personal design projects.

  2. Some items you may have to develop over time. Create a schedule for yourself to sit down and learn your software more thoroughly. It's time spent building your portfolio as well.

  3. As Chris Gee described in the quote at the bottom of the lesson, don't be afraid to include your sketches and preliminary work if it helps to show off how you think and the type of work you're capable of producing.

  4. Organize this material and mark it as described in the Assignment for Lesson 2.

After you've decided what will go in your graphic design portfolio (and created those pieces if you're just starting out) you'll need to decide how best to present those samples. As our Graphic Design Portfolios lessons continue we'll explore portfolio cases in Lesson 4 and how to assemble your samples in Lesson 5 as well as how to present your work to potential employers and clients in Lesson 6 (the final lesson in this class).
