Did you get some new computer gadgets for Christmas? A scanner, a digital camera? Are you itching to start churning out pictures, cards, or custom calendars but don't know where to start? Here's some beginner and not-so-beginner tips and tricks and ideas for using those new peripherals.

Scan It!
First things first. Get your scanner set up properly and calibrated. Once up and running, you may want to skip right to the good stuff -- scanning. But don't forget to go back to the scanning basics once you've tried out your new toy.

Click It!
Some of the terms associated with scanning also apply to digital cameras so you'll want to brush up on resolution, bit depth, and other basic terminology. And as with your scanner, you'll want to calibrate your digital camera as well as avoid things like digital zoom and camera shake.

Phantastic Photos!
Whether you scan traditional photos or use your digital camera, you'll probably want or need to enhance your photographs in some way. No matter what software you use, there are certain basic photo manipulation techniques.
