Be sure to print a few draft copies of your design as you go along because you may need to adjust margins, change font sizes, or move elements around. Once you have a design you like, print it out.

Try to use the heaviest card stock your printer can handle. You'll probably want to glue your finished display mat to an even sturdier piece of cardboard so that it won't bend under the weight of the coins you'll be attaching to it.

In my final design I changed the color scheme to purple, using darker purple for the years before I was born. Significant dates are less prominent but still set apart with a dark purple. I reworked the title and added a picture of a Jefferson nickel.

This is only the beginning. Now you'll want to make your coin collection shine by filling in each square with some shiny nickels.
