Give Complex Arrangements Complex Shadows

Drop shadows enhance illusion of layering.

Not absolutely perfect, still the mix of widths and coloring make this complex layering of text and shapes appear more realistic.

Through varied size and color the drop shadows show that the elements of the image are at differing depths not only from the background but from each other. Even though the image might not be photo-realistic, the extra effort to create more realistic drop shadows keeps the composition interesting. These shadows go well beyond the default black box drop shadow.

To go beyond drop shadows, add perspective with cast shadows.
