After placing your image in your page layout application you'll have to turn on the desired alpha channel to show the transparency.

You use an alpha channel as a clipping path in much the same way as described in Placing Images With Embedded Paths.

However, when your image contains multiple alpha channels there's an extra step involved. Choose the channel you want from the drop down box in the Clipping Path options of Adobe InDesign (top dialog in illustration) or QuarkXPress (bottom dialog in illustration).
