Associations and Clubs for Graphics and Design

Find everything from local computer user groups to international associations for those in most every area of graphic design or printing. These groups offer member benefits including networking opportunities, educational resources, workshops, scholarships, newsletters, and much more. Some sites offer a wealth of information for non-members too.
AACUG The Association of Apple Computer User Groups
This organization helps individuals find an Apple Computer User Group in their area and provides support for those in areas not covered by an ACUG. Membership application for ACUGs is on the site. There is an initial fee and annual dues.
ACM SIGGRAPH
Computer Graphics special interest group with professional and student chapters world-wide. See the site or individual chapters for membership fees.
ADCN Art Directors Club Nederland
For art directors, copywriters, photographers, and others in the field of art & design in the Netherlands. Site is not in English.
AGDA Australian Graphic Design Association
National non-profit organization for graphic design professionals and students in Australia. Several individual and group membership options.
AIGA American Institute of Graphic Arts
For graphic designers of all types. Local US chapters and student groups nationwide. Several types of individual and group memberships available including associate membership for those in design-related fields such as prepress, photography, etc.
Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington
For those involved in graphic design, art, photography, or illustration, including design education. Several categories of membership.
Association of Graphic Communications
Serving New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester based print/prepress providers, ad agencies, publishers, designers, and others. This is an affiliate of Printing Industries of America.
Association of Medical Illustrators
International organization primarily for those involved in medical and bioscientific communications whether as illustrators or in an advisory, administrative, or educational capacity. Several levels of membership and annual dues.
ATypI Association Typographique Internationale
For type designers, type publishers, graphic and typographic designers, and basically anyone with an interest in typographic issues. Run from the UK, it is a world-wide non-profit organization with individual and group memberships available.
British Design & Art Direction
Educational charity working on the behalf of the design and advertising community.
Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators
For those in all areas of visual communication especially photography or illustration with several membership categories including non-resident membership.
CMG Color Marketing Group
International association of Color Designers and Marketers — those responsible for the identification, interpretation, selection, and forecasting of color directions for various industries, products. Individual memberships available as well as Academic rates for the those qualified Design and/or Color teachers.
Corporate Design Foundation
Individuals and organizations in design, business, and education can become partners (at varying rates) in this education and research foundation.
BNO The Association of Dutch Designers
For designers and agencies in graphic, industrial, 3D, and illustration design. Most of site is not in English.
Design Council
Non-profit government-funded charity promoting effective use of design in the UK.
Design Exchange
For those interested in networking, education, and information exchange related to design. Student, individual, and other membership options with varying benefits available.
Designers Institute of New Zealand
For professional designers, students, educators, managers, and suppliers in all areas of design including graphic design. Four classes of membership for individuals and organizations.
Digital Divas
For Women only who are professionals or serious hobbyists in the field of computers. One membership requirement is having a well-designed and correctly coded Web site that shows your talent in web design, graphic art, programming, or other computer field. No dues, applications voted on by a panel of members.
Eurographics - European Association of Computer Graphics
Members are researchers, educators, students, and professionals in computer graphics or related fields. Based in Switzerland with national chapters in Germany, Portugal, Spain, and the UK plus affiliations in several other countries. Organization and individual membership options and fees.
Graphic Artists Guild
For illustrators, designers, web creators, production artists, surface designers and other creatives. Local chapters in Albany, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Indianapolis, New York City, Northern California, Southern California, Portland, and Seattle. All other areas represented by the At-Large Chapter. Membership application, fee, and dues required.
IEEE/PCS Professional Communication Society
Aimed at engineers and other technical communicators. PCS, Affiliate, and IEEE Membership benefits and dues vary.
NAPL National Association for Printing Leadership
For the commercial printing industry. Several membership options. (formerly National Assocation of Printers and Lithographers)
NAPP National Association of Photoshop Professionals
Organization for Adobe Photoshop users (of any experience level) within or outside the United States. Primarily graphic designers, photographers, print shops, Web designers, publications, ad agencies, digital video designers, in-house art departments, educators, trainers, or consultants, but open to all. Several categories of membership and fees.
Newspaper Association of America
For US newspapers that are published at least weekly. Also open to Canadian and international newspapers at a discounted rate. Several levels of membership for companies, educators, and related organizations.
OBD Organization of Black Designers
For African-American design professionals including Graphic Design/Visual Communications. Based in Washington D.C. Several membership options, with fees.
Power Graphics User Network
Find users groups for graphic designers and publishers using Windows-based tools. Get information on Los Angeles area workshops.
SEGD Society for Environmental Graphic Design
Promoting environmental graphic design (EGD), this group is for professionals involved in or interested in EGD including graphic designers and other visual communicators. Several levels of membership and fees for designers and for those in related fields or who are students.
SND Society for News Design
International organization for editors, designers, graphics artists, publishers, illustrators, art directors, photographers, advertising artists, Web site designers, students and faculty in the news media field. Annual conferences and regional events take place at varying locations. Membership fees based on publication circulation or student status.
Society for Technical Communication
This international organization of writers, editors, illustrators, printers, publishers, educators, students, engineers, and scientists has regional and local chapters. There is an enrollment fee and dues.
Society of Graphic Designers of Canada
National Council and regional chapters for Canadian graphic designers, design educators, students, and associates in the field. Contact the appropriate chapter for membership.
Society of Illustrators
For artists or those with an involvement in the art of illustration. Located in New York, NY. Various resident and non-resident dues and initiation fees.
SPAN Small Publishers Association of North America
For independent presses, self-publishers, authors, and vendors who supply products and services to the industry. Three membership options with fees available.
SPD The Society of Publication Designers
For trade, corporate, institutional, newspaper, and consumer editorial art directors. Individual and corporate memberships available.
UCDA University & College Designers Association
For those in design education as well as students and design field professionals in North America. Several types of membership options.
