Back when I published my own small Desktop Publishing magazine, I did an issue about type. The layout of the cover was based on a portion of an old typesetters tray -- a tray with various sizes of compartments that held metal type. I've redone that cover, with several changes, using only free fonts.
Fonts used in the above graphic "magazine cover."
Left to Right: "eye" from Free Dingbats
"like" in NuWorld Tight (Marty Pfeiffer)
"T" in SpikeCrumbSwollen (Astigmatic One Eye)
"Y" in Velvet (Squirt Gun)
"Man" (swirl effect applied) from GoodDogBones (FontHead Design)
"F r e e" in Glitch0 and Glitch1 (InDigest)
"P" in Acidic (Surface Type);
"the newsletter" from InkFont Dingbats (Digital Ink)
"Lightbulb" from InkFont Dingbats (Digital Ink)
"These fonts are free" in NapoleonBold Condensed (Linotype-Hell AG)
"radiating circle/dot symbol" from FFDingbests (Fontshop International)
vertical "FONTS" in Goudy Trajan (Castle Type)
"E" in Goudy Striped (Patricia Lillie)
"Yes!" from Minipics dingbats
handwritten text of (then) 7 year old Garret Bear;
"The quick brown fox..." in SchoolText (Mountain Lake Software, Inc.)
Gray "F" in GroveScript Medium (Phil's Fonts)
"fonts" in Borderzone (Digiteyes TypeArt) SpillMilk (FontHead Design) Deadgrit (Astigmatic One Eye);
"R" (flipped) in Wichita (Chankfonts);
"Fun" in Ol'54 (Surface Type);
"&" in Borderzone (Digiteyes TypeArt)
"ART" in Univox (Ray Larabie);
"Man's Face" from GoodDogBones (FontHead Design);
"Alphabet" in SpillMilk (FontHead Design).
My thanks to all the font designers, type foundries, and authorized distributors who have so graciously supplied these works of art at no charge.
