Definition: Non-printing ruler and column guides that appear on the publication page where they are placed and not on the master pages or other pages are referred to as local guides. Changes to local guides does not affect master pages or other publication pages.

The pink and blue lines represent non-printing column guides and ruler guides which, if placed on pages other than master pages, are considered local guides.
