Dinglets (Letterbats)

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

dinglets letterbats

Dinglets or Letterbats are letters shaped from other objects or people.

DingLets are letters and other characters made from pictures of other objects such as people or animals and are also known as letterbats. This categories also includes objects with letters inside (such as the Party Ballons font) and letters dressed up to look like people or animals.
Using DingLets: Use a few characters of people exercising to spell out exercise related words for a sports club flier. Match characters to the theme of a party for a clever invitation. Colorize the characters in a graphics program and use them as creative initial caps, especially in a flier or newsletter for kids.

It's best to use these types of fonts at extra large sizes (larger than in the image in the sidebar, usually) and use them individually or for short words for best readability.
