These free images are in two distinct color groups - Neon Leaves and and Brown Butterflies but were all created using the same technique described below. To grab these images off the page: Windows - right click then select SAVE; Mac - click & hold then select SAVE. Save these images to your hard drive/server - do not link directly to the images on this server from your Web site.

Neon leaves
...all buttons are 40x40 and approximately 2K... the background image is 1200x80 and creates a border down the left side of the page. These are GIF files.

Butterflies in shades of brown
...all buttons are 40x40 and
approximately 1K... the background image is 1200x80. The background image shows the butterflies clearly (along the left side of the page) while the buttons simply pick up the brown and gold colors. These are JPG files.

How to Make these
Buttons
Here are the instructions and settings I used in Corel Photo-Paint 7 to create all the square buttons above.
- Create new image that is 40x40 pixels.
- Select image brush tool. For the neon buttons I used the image list of Neon Leaves. For the brown buttons I used the image list of Butterflies.
- Set the image brush tool at 72 pixels and 25 transparency.
- Apply random images to the new (blank image) until you have a look you like.
- Choose Mask-Select All; Mask-Shape-Reduce (8 pixels).
- Choose Effects-Fancy-The Boss (Dry style, all other settings default).
- Choose Image-Convert to-Paletted-Optimized (for Neon buttons).
- Save the neon buttons as GIF files.
- Save the brown buttons as JPG (the photos of the butterflies used in these buttons reduce better as JPG files than as GIF).
Try different image lists or paint tools to create your own original buttons in different colors and patterns. Even if you use the same image lists your buttons will look different -- experiment!
