Set Up Guides in QuarkXPress
Try all of these Options for setting guides

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

There are multiple ways to create and modify margin, column, and ruler guides in QuarkXPress. The instructions on this page for setting up guides refer to the basic QuarkXPress program and not to any of the many XTensions which supply additional functionality, including increased options for guides.
  • Specify margin guides, columns, and gutter width in the New Document dialog box.

  • To create ruler guides, position the mouse pointer in the horizontal or vertical ruler. Click, hold, and drag to position the ruler guide on the page. The pointer changes to a two-way arrow until the mouse button is released.

  • To create a ruler guide on the pasteboard (spread guides), click on a portion of the ruler that is not overlapping the page and drag the guide onto the pasteboard.

  • Guides must be set individually for left and right facing Master pages.

  • As ruler guides are dragged onto the page the Measurements palette displays X,Y coordinates to aid in placing the guides at the desired position.
