Contact Proofs

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

Definition: A contact proof is a type of monochrome prepress proof. They are created using various film or photographic methods that involve special types of paper, thus they are sometimes referred to as paper proofs. Bluelines and Velox or RC Paper proofs are common types of inexpensive contact proofs. A contact proof is generally (though not always) meant primarily to show layout and copy.

A contact proof is not usually the same as a contract proof.

Also Known As: paper proofs | position only proofs | blueline | Velox
Examples:
Basic monochrome contact proofs are generally best for one-color jobs to check position and alignment of all page elements and to make sure there are no scratches, smudges, or other stray marks on the film. High-contrast RC Paper (Velox) contact proofs can be used to make camera-ready artwork.
