Definition: Pages on the right side of a two-page spread are the recto pages. Recto pages are the odd-numbered pages in a book or similiar publication.

Page one of a publication is almost always a recto page, making these the front side of pages.

On a loose sheet of double-sided paper, such as a drawing sheet, the recto side the side with the drawing or with the most important drawings if both sides are used. It's the side usually displayed first or face-up.
