In order to use PostScript Type 1 fonts in your word processor or other programs you must install them using Adobe Type Manager (ATM) if running Windows 3.1/Me/98/95/NT.

Time Required: 1-5 minutes or less to install a few fonts on a Windows PC
Here's How:
- Open Adobe Type Manager.
It will probably be under Start > Programs > Adobe. - Set Source.
Be sure that Source is set to Browse for Fonts. - Locate the Fonts.
Navigate to the folder on your hard drive, a disk, or CD where your new PostScript Type 1 fonts are located. - Choose the Fonts.
Highlight the PostScript Type 1 fonts you wish to install. - Install.
Click the Add button and Adobe Type Manager installs the selected fonts.
Tips:
- If you are installing fonts from a CD be sure the 'Add without copying files' box is NOT checked; unless the fonts are located somewhere (such as a network) which you will have access to at all times.
- Windows Type 1 fonts have two files: PFB (printer font binary has outlines that control how the font looks) and PFM (printer font metrics has information about font spacing). ATM installs both as long as both files are present.
- With Windows Me/98/95/NT4 use ATM Deluxe, ATM Light, or ATM 4.0 or later.
With Windows 3.1/NT3.5.1 use ATM version 3.x.
Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 have built-in Type 1 font support and ATM can interfere with the built-in font management. See the installation How-to for 2000/XP and Vista/7 (below) for details.
- Due to differences in their structure, Mac and Windows PostScript Type 1 fonts are not cross-platform compatible. Be sure you have Windows PostScript Type 1 fonts.
