Create a Greeting Card - Class Introduction

Skill Level: Beginner or Non-Designer

By , About.com Guide

This Create a Greeting Card class teaches some of the basics of desktop publishing while completing a simple project. Learn desktop publishing by learning how to create a greeting card. Along the way we'll discuss specific desktop publishing and design principles. In the end, hopefully, you'll have a better understanding of the design process and a nice set of lessons that teachers can adapt for the classroom, if necessary. And you'll know how to create a greeting card of your own for any occasion.
This class is also available as a free Create a Greeting Card email class for those who desire a more structured approach with weekly reminders and additional notes on how to create a greeting card.

Each lesson of the Create a Greeting Card class is presented in 3 parts: Definitions, Instruction, Assignment. Most lessons also contain bonus study material or extra assignments to further reinforce that lesson.

I originally used Microsoft Publisher 98 to do create a greeting card for these lessons, but you can adapt all lessons to the desktop publishing or greeting card software program of your choice. The focus of the class is on the design and layout of a greeting card along with font and image selection, no matter what software is ultimately used. This is a self-paced, ungraded course with 9 lessons.
