Page Layout
- The process of arranging elements on a page. The final arrangement of text and images. Software designed for this purpose.
Rows/Columns/Grids
- When items are arranged on a page, using invisible rows or columns -- a grid -- aids in aligning objects, creating a visual hierarchy, and leading the eye across the page.
Guides
- Non-printing lines mark the margins and columns and other grid boundaries of a page. They aid in flow and alignment of text and positioning of graphics during page layout.
Alignment
- How things line up affects appearance and readability. Text as well as images can be aligned to the left, the right, centered, or aligned with each other.
Balance
- There are many ways to achieve a visually balanced layout. The goal is to evenly distribute text, graphics, and white space so that the page doesn't appear to tilt.
