Map Out the Job

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

Before opening your graphics or page layout software or even before delving into the design process, plan out the job. This is especially important on large projects. Create a list or flow chart showing the various stages required, fixed deadlines, other people involved in the project and their contributions (including copywriters, illustrators, photographers, and others). You can use specialized flow chart or organizational software or just paper and pencil. Use this plan to organize your work, pace yourself, identify potential problem areas or missing information, and meet deadlines.
