Free Desktop Publishing Basics Class by Email
Learn desktop publishing one or two words at a time and one rule at a time with this free desktop publishing class. Get your Daily Dose of DTP. Each day will bring you a lesson with definitions and mini-tutorials for new words or phrases relevant to desktop publishing or rules and guidelines to follow along with related fun, useful, and sometimes extremely important trivia or tips.
What Does the Class Cover? This is not simply a word-a-day course. The desktop publishing lessons follow a specific order in roughly the following groupings (# of lessons in parentheses): - General desktop publishing concepts (8)
- Things you need to do desktop publishing(3)
- Font specifics (3)
- Image specifics (4)
- Prepress & Printing (10)
- Desktop Publishing Rules & Tutorials/Test (20)
As the class proceeds terms will move from the general to the specific and then we tie it all together at the end with several desktop publishing rules and design guidelines plus a quiz based on what has been covered throughout the class.
Two Ways To Get Your Daily Dose of DTP If a daily email for 7 weeks is too fast (or too slow), you can get your doses of desktop publishing basics at the pace you choose by bookmarking the online version of the Daily Dose of DTP and visiting as often as you want until you've completed all the lessons and quizzes. For a more structured approach, sign up for the 7 week, daily emails. To get the daily emails, keep reading.
Who Should Enroll for a Daily Dose of Desktop Publishing Basics? This is an introductory class designed primarily for those with little or no experience or training in desktop publishing and graphic design. The Daily Dose of DTP is not a hands-on how to do desktop publishing course (that comes later). However, once completed you will have a much better understanding of the desktop publishing process which will make future classes easier to understand. How Long Will It Take? You'll receive a daily email newsletter for approximately 7 weeks - then the mailings will stop. Do a lesson a day or save them up and do a weeks worth at a time. Whatever suits you and your schedule. This is self-paced but the lessons come daily. You may repeat the class as many times as you wish (but you'll have to re-subscribe at the end of each run). How Do I Enroll? Sign up below and your first daily dose of desktop publishing will arrive shortly. When the last newsletter arrives you are automatically unsubscribed - no action required on your part. To unsubscribe earlier use the link at the end of one of the newsletters. There is no way to change your email address mid-course. If you don't think you'll have the same email address 7 weeks from now, you may prefer to wait or go to the online version. Don't Miss an Issue Be sure to read the notes on making sure the newsletters can get past any spam-blocking measures you or your ISP have in place (below signup form). It's up to you. If your inbox is full, you won't receive delivery. If you use spam-blocking software that requires the sender to fill in a form, you won't receive delivery. You'll need to make sure that this newsletter is marked as "non-spam" or "friend" in whatever blocking software you or your ISP uses. If one does get lost go here: Lost Lessons to retrieve any missing emails.
