F is for Finish...

Wednesday August 16, 2006
We're not near the end of our DTP alphabet but with many desktop publishing projects we start with the end - the finish, the finishing, the final touches.
  • Finishing
In desktop publishing finishing is what comes after printing. It's the post-press processing of your print project. It can be as simple as folding letters and inserting them in the envelope or as complex as die cuts, foil stamping, and binding. Even if you won't handle the finishing personally, knowing what is involved in each step of the finishing processing is vital to helping design and print your project.

  • Folding
Tired of the same old tri-fold brochure? Before you can do gatefolds, french folds, or accordian folds you need to plan your page layout to accommodate and complement the way you want the paper folded.

  • Finding and Fine-tuning Fonts
Choosing fonts doesn't come at the end of a project but fine-tuning those fonts and your text is an on-going process from start to finish. Polish your text wraps, typographic punctuation, and line endings for a finer finished product.
