branding with blueDo you associate intelligence, stability, unity, or conservatism with companies such as PayPal, The Weather Channel, HP, and WebMD? Do you think of Facebook and Twitter as friendly places? Those are attributes typically associated with the color blue and all those Web brands sport blue logos.

Gizmodo has an interesting presentation of The Most Powerful Colors on the Web. The top 100 Web brands (that includes About.com over in the red) are arranged by color. There's a fair amount of red and orange with a touch of yellow, purple, and green. But looking at this graphic it appears that blue rules.

Of course the color symbolism doesn't guarantee that those qualities will automatically translate to the company using that color. I'm sure there are plenty of disgruntled computer owners or frustrated readers who don't get a feeling of calm or confidence from certain blue logo brands. It makes for a pretty graphic though.

Yes, I like to think that I, my business, fit in the category of intelligence, stability, unity, and conservatve. That, and the fact that, like most people, my favorite color is blue, is probably why my corporate identity – my logo, web site, and my newsletter have a blue theme.
The link to “the most powerful colors on the web” was very interesting and inspiring.
For one of me projects when I was studying graphic design at Erie Community College, I did a “Color Psychology” presentation. A lot of my notes for that project came from Jacci’s Desktop Publishing & graphic design articles. Much appreciated!
