I was recently gathering typography quotations for a personal project and decided to use some of those quotations here on the site. But rather than a straight list of random quotes I'm grouping them into smaller related groups and adding my own commentary on each. My first group focuses on quotations that define typography. I plan to do others that focus more on type design or font choices or very specific topics such as letterspacing. But first, read the quotable thoughts of Hermann Zapf, Matthew Carter, Ellen Lupton, Robert Bringhurst and others on the themes of "Typography is Not a Font" and "Typography is Not Silent."
Related to these typography quotations, here's a quick exercise. Typography -- good or bad -- isn't all about the fonts. Without changing the specific fonts, what other typography changes could improve this image (below)? (or is it perfect the way it is?) Post your comments.

The gap between B and e in Beauty is distracting. Close that space up and it will help.
