A high school student is wondering about how to get into the field of design and what schools have good programs. In response to How to Get Started in a Design Career, Ell recommends business classes.
They don't teach the business side of things as part of graphicdesign degree programs. Even classes on public speaking and business communication are helpful even when you aren't working freelance. All the design talent in the world is useless if you can't manage money or customers.
What advice do you have? Are there specific degree programs or even certain schools you'd highly recommend? What non-traditional path worked for you? Share your design career advice for someone just leaving high school (or anyone else).
