Whether you knew the names are not you've probably seen the two variations of the lowercase a and g. Most of us handwrite the single-storey form of a and g while many fonts use the double-storey a or double-storey g -- or both. This TypeTalk column from February has a bit more history and a lot more examples of both forms of a and g.
