Place, Don't Paste

Wednesday June 24, 2009
A forum visitor wants to know "how to copy text from word 08 into indesign?" Several members point out that rather than doing copy and paste, the best way to get the text from a word processor to a page layout program is to place it (import it). Depending on the program, there several different ways to get text into a page layout program, some that preserve the layout better than others -- if that's what you want -- including RTF, tab-delimited, and plain text. Marco adds an important tip in the forum discussion: "When placing a word document in Indesign, you'll need to ensure that the word document is closed."
