How well do you know your fonts? Find out in this series of font identification activities. Can you ace 'em all?

Know Your Fonts:

  • The Rather Difficult Font Game from ilovetypography.com is multiple choice game where you try to correctly identify 34 fonts. You're given a short sample word and four choices. You really need to know your fonts for this game. True to its name, it is rather difficult.
  • Deep Font Challenge is a Flash based arcade-style font game. You have only a few seconds to shoot the right font target out of several targets that pop up bearing a single letter for each font. You get three lives (misses) before you're out. Think fast.
  • Sara Newton's Fontastic Quiz at mental_floss is a series of 10 multiple choice questions. Even if you don't know fonts very well, there are clues (and a bit of history) in the wording of the questions so read, don't just look at the font.
  • Font Types I and II at Trivia Plaza are multiple choice font identification quizzes. For Quiz I you get to identify common fonts like Fixedsys and Lansbury. The questions change if you retake it.  Quiz II is similar but has you identifying common but perhaps less familiar fonts like Lucida Console, Tempus Sans, and Terminal.

Font-Related:

  • What Font Are You? at Quizilla is a personality quiz. Answer a few goofy questions and you'll be assigned a font that matches your personality.
  • Alphabet Soup Quizzes at EZ1 Productions (3 of them) have you identifying a movie poster based on just one tiny bit of type. Knowing fonts helps a little. Knowing movies helps a lot more. Choose from the drop-down menu.
