Here's a geeky cool way to look at typefaces that I found making the blog rounds recently.
The Periodic Table of Typefaces by Squidspot groups typefaces by similarity/classification and arranges the table more or less by popularity. A close look at each record in the table shows you a snapshot of the typeface -- its classiification, designer, year it made its debut. While it might not be the most useful type tool out there, I think I'll be printing up the full-size image (find it here: Squidspot Period Table of Typefaces Large jpg) and putting it on the wall. It just looks nifty.
