Vintage Design (What's Old is New Again)

Follow me on:

I love vintage ads and posters. One of my beloved clip art sources is a Dover disc of classic posters (120 Classic Posters From "Les Maitres De L'Affiche" - compare prices).

When I'm at our local used book store I often pick up old books full of wonderful illustrations -- such as a Texaco publication featuring Olympic Games posters from 1912-1972 and Yours Truly And One Hundred Other Original Drawings featuring the work of several American artists such as James Montgomery Flagg.

In Vintage Design: Innovation Lessons from the Past (Brain Pickings), Maria Popova delves into how today's world is influenced by yesterday's posters, op-eds, print advertising, and feature story illustrations as explored in The Art of The Message. Lots of pictures help tell the story. And from the same blog, don't miss Vintage Russian Ads.

And speaking of vintage... here's a shout-out to my baby brother who today celebtrates his last year before one of those big milestone birthdays)
