7 Fonts That Should Die?
Monday August 4, 2008
OK, I can agree with some of these 7 Fonts that should die (Brush Script, yuck-o) but Papyrus?

Gee, I've always liked Papyrus.
And Comic Sans didn't make the list. Which fonts would you put on the done to death list?

Comments
I deleted Comic Sans from my computer, I hate it so much. It had the added benefit that my co-workers seem much more intelligent now that their email uses a ‘regular’ font.
“It had the added benefit that my co-workers seem much more intelligent now that their email uses a ‘regular’ font.”
That was priceless…
I remember telling my ex-boss how his shop chain of over 40 shops shouldn’t have price tags with Comics Sans. How I was horrified to see it and it had to be changed straight away. The boss agreed. I then went somewhere else and talked about the new design of the price tags.
One of my colleagues was appalled, “Did the boss really agreed to change the font?”
“Yes”, I said.
“How did you do that? He loves it!”
And yes I do think Comics Sans should die, for it’s just used in the wrong places…
I am one who votes for the retirement of Comic Sans! Whatever you say using that font loses any veneer of seriousness. Used in the wrong place, you can even insult your target audience. It used to be cute, but now it’s just overused.
Trying to delete foreign fonts
Computer; Toshiba Satellite A210 Laptop
HD 120GB, Memory, 2 GB
This computer is infested with many identical foreign fonts, Korean and Chinese, which will never be used.
Examples. Gulim:GulimChe:Dotum;DotumChe 13,208 KB
MingLiU 26,852 KB
JhengHei 14,170 KB
There are many more all occupying huge footprints, and as a graphic designer I resent their presence and desperately wish to be rid of them and to replace them with good classical fonts.
Going through the normal font deletion process has removed other, smaller fonts, but these massive oriental fonts are immovable.
Changing the ownership and permissions to myself is of no avail, and the following message always protects them; THIS ACTION CAN’T BE COMPLETED BECAUSE THE FILE IS OPEN IN ANOTHER PROGRAM. I can never find another program which is open, and do not know where the fonts could be being used. There must be a way of removing them.
I will be very grateful for your help with this.

I certainly agree with the comments about Comic Sans — it is greatly over-used. Although I like Papyrus, it, too, is over-used. It frequently suffers from poor kerning, especially between the capitals (P, T and a few others) and the lowercase that follows. In my opinion, Poetica — especially the capitals when used all-caps (gross!) as well as any other font that looks like Poetica, should be retired. It has its use, but has been overdone for way too long.
