Using the Right Software for the Job at Hand
Wednesday June 29, 2005
In the forum Brenda writes, "I am making a 4 page 11x7 1/2 fold price list. I am doing 90% of putting it together in Illustrator, I just work better there. Are there issues with doing this and then importing to Quark or Indesign? The only thing I'll add later is page numbers. Do you forsee any problems with doing it this way?"
While a 4-pager shouldn't present much of a problem, Phoenix reminds us, [QuarkXPress and InDesign] "are page layout programs for a very good reason... they work with multiple pages and text and placement of images in a superior way to a vector program that has text capabilities."
Are you using the best type of program for the project you're tackling?

- Page Layout Software - this is the heart of desktop publishing, learn what it is used for, who uses it, its features
- Choosing Graphics Software for Desktop Pubishing - vector vs. bitmap
- What's the Best Software for Logo Design? - Photoshop is not at the top of the list
- Specialty Software - sometimes you don't need a program that "does it all"
- What are the Minimum Desktop Publishing Software Requirements? - minimum still depends on what you're trying to do
- Using CorelDRAW for Page Layout - it does graphics, but it can do text too
- Using Adobe Illustrator for Page Layout - for some text projects, it can be a fine choice
