Fontographer is Back

Friday May 20, 2005
While it never really left the scene entirely, Fontographer has been languishing unsupported and with no updates for a number of years - an eternity compared to most other design and typography software tools. But the program is now in the hands of Fontlab Ltd. -- the same folks who produce FontLab, TypeTool, and other font editors and utilities. They plan to provide support for Fontographer version 4.1 + from Macromedia and will undertake the task of continuing product development.

According to Fontlab Ltd., Fontographer will fill a gap between their TypeTool and FontLab Studio offerings providing "a font editor for graphic designers and desktop publishers, powerful enough for real-world typography but without all the bells and whistles of our high-end products." They will also offer upgrades from TypeTool to Fontographer to FontLab Studio or AsiaFont Studio. Read more: Fontographer Has a New Home at Fontlab Ltd.
